Helmut Lang: from fashion to extraordinary sculpturing

Very recently an unusual exhibition took place in Washington Square, who knew fashion designer Helmut Lang also makes sculptures?

Artist Helmut Lang. Photo courtesy of the artist.

This Austrian designer and well known New York- minimalist have created an unusual collection of sculptures made out of recycled tyres, foams and sheepskin... good idea? The bizarre shapes  of these sculptures are a representation of multi-layered totems that are a cross between fungi and phalluses. Combined with tar and plaster these mostly monochromatic pieces are rich with their original textures and indentations. A series of white fragmented wall sculptures reveal the artist's restraint, as visitors lean in to observe subtle variations in textures and material. There’s something very appealing about seeing them all together, as if in a surreal forest of strange vertical vegetation. However it awakens a worrying emotion that these creations are only powerful in a bunch... their oddness pushes for acceptance!

The artist behind all of that weirdness dedicated himself to his art full time in 2005 leaving the helm of eponymous fashion label behind. But was that the right thing to do? Below are images of his fashion collections... Do you see any similarities between these collections and his art? Minimal use of colours, simple lines, minimal cuts but at the same very intriguing and trendy styles.  That's his style and it shines through his work on many levels!

More images of the creative endeavours, a conversation between abstraction and figuration:

Talking of sculptures... why not to make your own pieces of art? All you need is: empty bottles of wine (but don't throw away the liquid-drink it), or any glass bottles that are available to you, crackle medium, two contrasting colours of paint, some foam paint brushes and small decorating pieces (shells, string, pieces of leather) ... for the tutorial on how to do it visit: HubPages

Get a piece of Justin Timberlake in your home

Very recently the singer turned actor Justin Timberlake has turned his hand to interior decorating. A new wallet-friendly collection of home goods he created in collaboration with interior decorator and celebrity Estee Stanley just launched this week. "For me, designing a house is just like a bigger canvas than styling, and it actually lasts longer," Stanley said of her approach to the line, which includes dinnerware, rugs, pillows , and more.

The two talented people have a long relationship. It began a while ago as Stanley decorated Timberlake's homes, she also styles his fiancé, Jessica Biel. Therefore the collaboration is very little of a surprise... as Stanley explained "Men think so differently from women and I wanted to have that in the whole collaboration." Timberlake agrees: "Each thing that we have has a masculine-feminine quality to it."

It's a house full of animals!

Following yesterday's announcement about our Poster give-away (more details on our facebook page: Rewards for a favour...) I have looked through some photo galleries and found a few pictures that one of our customers sent to us the other day. I thought it would be a great example of a "favour" that we are looking for, our dear fiends, in order to be included in weekly POSTER draw! very simple task...

So, as title may suggest, the author of the following photography has populated his household with animals... his choices include a bunch of green penguins and one, but very cute and brown baset dog. We were utterly pleased with the effect they managed to achieve plus, the message received along with pictures was equally pleasing... in fact, here is what they said: "We are delighted to announce that the row of suicidal penguins shocks our guests in the hallway and the dog, called "Frytka"- crisp, reassures them in the lounge. I suspect these stickers are just an introduction, I have a few ideas..."

Businesslink in Warsaw

Our dear friends from Poland, DEKORNIK, have recently been working on an amazing and very interesting project in Warsaw which is a great example of how our wall stickers can be used proving that even the smallest detail can make a huge change. As a result of that I would love to share their work with you posting a series of pictures showing the "fun" workplace, which Businesslink has become! I must admit that all of the designs that have been used are very playful and colourful what makes these offices look like a "playground for adults"! which is great as there is a bit of a kid in all of us. Personally, I would love to work there... such spectacular décor! and as the guys have described it "the most creative place (besides Dekornik of course) on the map of Warsaw".

Ideas and execution of the project on 1500m2 owned by Dekornik's team, excellent job!

And now, have a look at the STICKERS!! they are cool...

Feeling the spring...

Today we have got something for flower fanatics. It is a spring time therefore flowers are something that tend to remind us of this time of the year... but why not to surround yourself with them all year round? I have revisited one of our favourite interior design consultants and a talented blogger in this field, Holy Becker, and found two beautiful and calming bedrooms where floral deigns seem to play an important role. Along with bright, statement colours Holy has used wall stickers to highlight the spring/floral theme. The first bedroom has got a series of tiny floral patterns that introduce different kind of texture, busy one, to this clean line structured room. Second bedroom, on the other hand, incorporates bold and bigger flower images into its design that become the main point of attention.

I would like to show you that you can copy this style using our wall stickers, therefore please visit our shop and browse our collections...

Here are the bedroom designs along with our stickers: Floral

Today we are admiring all that's unusual and unique!

But, does it mean practical? the following design of a bookcase shaped as a tree breaks
the tradition of horizontal shelving and seems to take over a lot of space.
The designer of this brave creation is Roberto Corazza and I must admit, I like the concept! It is unusual and trees are a great representation of wisdom and growth therefore it can easily hold off any book. I think it looks cool! this item is most definitely unique...

Or check out these Books inspired Pages Chair, one day you can sit on a pink chair and the next day on a purple one... creative and funky! It allows for adjustments of the seat height and backrest cushioning.

Another gadget that has amazed me was the Magnetic Curtain designed by Florian Kräutli,

and I've thought I've seen everything... You can shape this curtain to whichever form you

like as it has got magnetic points. Therefore it allows you to have fun, and having fun is

always good! the only downside is that this item is still a project and isn't produced, but

looks great...
